Two Killed in Fiery Multi-Vehicle Accident

A stretch of Highway 401 in Pickering, Ontario, was closed following a fiery multi-vehicle crash that left two people dead late Tuesday. The highway was shut down in both directions near Brock Road, and it is unclear when it will reopen.

The incident occurred around 11:30 p.m. on June 21, 2023. According to witnesses, a tanker truck collided with several other vehicles, causing a series of explosions and a large fire. The tanker erupted into a massive fireball, causing extensive damage to the vehicles involved.

Victims and Road Conditions

The two victims were pronounced dead at the scene. Their identities have not yet been released. The Transportation Ministry is still on site assessing the road and overpass conditions. The westbound lanes of the highway remain closed, and there is no estimate for when they will reopen.

Motorists are advised to avoid the area and seek alternate routes. The Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) is investigating the crash and has not yet released further details.
