Thomas Lane Released from Prison Tuesday
Former Minneapolis police officer convicted in George Floyd's murder
Thomas Lane, one of the four Minneapolis police officers convicted in the murder of George Floyd, is scheduled to be released from custody on Tuesday, according to the Federal Bureau of Prisons.
Lane was sentenced to 2 1/2 years in prison
Lane was sentenced to 2 1/2 years in prison in federal court for violating Floyd's civil rights. He pleaded guilty to the charge in May 2023.
Lane was one of four officers involved in Floyd's death on May 25, 2020. Floyd, a 46-year-old Black man, died after Lane and the other officers restrained him on the ground for more than nine minutes.
The other three officers involved in Floyd's death were convicted of murder and sentenced to prison terms ranging from 10 1/2 years to 12 1/2 years.
