Early Life, Family, and Education

Chelsea Joy Handler was born in Livingston, New Jersey on February 25, 1975. Her mother, Rita Stoecker, was a Mormon born in Germany, while her father, Seymour Handler, was an American-born Jew. Handler has an older brother named Glen Handler.

As a child, Handler moved with her family to several different states. She attended high school in Denver, Colorado, and graduated from high school in Santa Monica, California. She then attended the University of California, Los Angeles for one year before dropping out.

Career

Handler began her career in stand-up comedy in the early 2000s. She has released several comedy specials, including "Chelsea Handler: Unleashed" (2006), "Chelsea Handler: Chelsea Chelsea Bang Bang" (2008), and "Chelsea Handler: Uganda Be Kidding Me" (2014).

In 2007, Handler began hosting the late-night talk show "Chelsea Lately" on E!. The show aired for seven seasons and won several awards. Handler also hosted the talk show "Chelsea" on Netflix from 2016 to 2017.

In addition to her work in stand-up comedy and television, Handler has also written several books, including "My Horizontal Life: A Collection of One-Night Stands" (2005), "Are You There, Vodka? It's Me, Chelsea" (2008), and "Life Will Be the Death of Me" (2019).
